Our faces have the most sensitive skin on our bodies. While we can protect this skin by staying hydrated and through the use of sunscreens and moisturizers, there are also treatments that can be done to naturally enhance our faces. One of the most popular of these is dermaplaning, which is a great option for all skin types.
This non-invasive treatment targets the outermost layer of skin and focuses on removing vellus hair (or “peach fuzz”), dead skin, and debris that has accumulated. The treatment is done with a fine edged, medical surgical blade that is held at a 45 degree angle. Short, gentle strokes are carefully done by your technician. Unlike shaving, the angle and single blade allow for the blade to target areas of the skin that would otherwise be unreachable.
Dermaplaning is ultimately an exfoliating treatment. This practice is incredibly helpful for the skin. It can unclog pores, even your skin tone, and can also prevent acne. In dermaplaning, the removal of the vellus hairs (or “peach fuzz” hairs) will help prevent dirt and oil build up while also promoting smoother, softer skin. Over time, acne scars and fine lines will become less visible. Exfoliating practices like this one help to promote glowing clear skin.
This is a treatment that is recommended to be done every 3-4 weeks to allow the skin to heal and regrow. Failure to wait could lead to light skin peeling after treatment. And don’t worry, it is a myth that your facial hair will grow back coarser and more quickly. Any vellus hairs (“peach fuzz”) will grow back the same way and will not get darker. Too much exfoliation in between treatments could strip away your skin’s natural oils and create irritation where there was none.
It is very important to not do this treatment at home and to leave it to the professionals. Our center offers the best spa treatments including dermaplaning as well as hair care in our AVEDA Hair Salon. We look forward to serving you when you are looking for a relaxing day in Key West, Florida.
